Interior Designer Jobs – Career Explained

There are many different types of interior designer jobs out there, so if you are thinking about getting trained in the art and design fields, you will have many options available to you once you enter the career world. You could design the interiors of people’s homes, healthcare environments, office buildings, government buildings, weddings and corporate events, or film and theater sets, just to name a few of possibilities. Some interior designer careers are focused on eco-friendly designs, and others are more focused on the purchasing aspect of the business. The interior designing profession might be right for you, and it’s worth learning more to find out.

One of the first things most people want to know is the average interior designer salary range, which can vary greatly depending on experience and the specific job. Starting out with an interior designing firm you might make between $22,000 and $40,000, but eventually most people in the field want to start their own business. If you are able to start a successful business and procure a lot of interior designer jobs, you will be able to earn between $50,000 and $100,000 a year. It takes a lot of experience to get to this point, though, and a solid education to get started.

The interior designing profession could take you in many different directions, but the main point of this profession is to create attractive and functional interior environments. Many people also focus their interior designing careers on green building and decorating, which is becoming increasingly popular since more people are concerned about greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency. Interior designers must be adept at research, analysis and integration of creative processes. If you want to enter this profession, you will need to understand human psychology to better serve your clients at a deeper level, and of course you will need to understand remodeling, floor plans, construction codes, patterns, color schemes and more.

Interior designers should be accredited to work in this field, which requires training in the field. And the better you are trained, the higher your potential interior designer salary. Trade schools, colleges and universities offer various degrees in interior designing and related subjects.

Interior Design Jobs – Career Opportunities for Artistic People

By the time I’d reached my late twenties, I was still uncertain as to what I wanted to do with my life. I’d been chopping and changing my jobs and not following any career path specifically. Then, one day as I was listening to a radio show, there was this guy being interviewed who said that our society would be much happier as a whole if folks tried to pursue in their careers the kind of things they enjoyed doing outside the workplace, instead of working at jobs they thought they should be doing.

He went on to say that we spend more conscious hours in the workplace than we do in our homes, so it’s important to be happy and not merely motivated by money and fringe benefits. This really got me thinking because all my life I have been interested in interior design jobs, but thought they were reserved for the elite few.

People are spending more time and money on improving their homes than ever before which means there are many more openings in interior design jobs than there have ever been. Sure, a lot of folks are heavily into the Do It Yourself, or DIY craze, but there are just as many who are not and are quite happy to let the professional designers into their homes and draw up a plan for their interiors.

People are spending a lot of time in the home these days, and therefore it makes good sense that they want to make their living spaces as comfortable and as compatible with their ideas as possible. There are so many contemporary and oldie-worldie styles to choose from though many prefer to come up with some unique designs of their own, with a little help from an interior designer of course. I genuinely have an artistic flair and have always been complemented on they way I’ve designed my living spaces, so I got to thinking, why not take a look into the world of interior design jobs? After all, I’m passionate about interior design so what could be better than making ones hobby into an occupation.

A little research has shown that to apply for the best interior design jobs I shall need to get educated in this field. Talent alone is not enough if you plan to work for others as many companies like to see some academic achievement along with an artistic aptitude. Despite the growing demand by home owners to have their interiors designed by a professional, there is still pretty stiff competition when applying for interior design jobs.

I’ve come to find out that there are interior design jobs within small specialist companies or large national groups. The difference here is that with the smaller companies you would need to be prepared to be a Jack-of-all-trades and master of most, whereas with the bigger concerns you role would have a more specific focus. Personally, I think that interior design jobs within a small outfit would be the most rewarding as you get to be more involved in all areas of a project.

Finally, if you have a flair for a particular style, then you should focus on that. I have a deep respect and genuine interest in Feng Shui which is the Chinese art of correct placement. It’s also hugely popular these days as folks are wanting to know more about the spiritual aspects to life. Feng Shui is said to increase income, improve relationships, and generally make your life better. There are many fascinating aspects to Feng Shui and they also make for great selling points when discussing interiors with potential clients.

Interior Design jobs are going to be my new focus. My only regret I have is that I didn’t take up the opportunity sooner. No matter who you are or what you do, it’s never too late to follow your dream. Are you doing for a living what you really want to do?

An insurance fraud investigator may be responsible for investigating disability claims where individuals say their mobility and/or quality of life is limited due to chronic pain. When an insurance company has a case they want investigated, the insurance and fraud investigator will usually start with some background information such as personal contacts, addresses, previous claims (if any), and the nature of the current claim. Once the file has been reviewed, the investigator might even do some surveillance work to ensure that the individual has actually lost the functions they claim they have lost. This will involve the use of equipment such as video and still cameras.

Most insurance fraud jobs in this field require working with insurance lawyers or consumer fraud lawyers in the cases where an individual has been found to be providing fraudulent information. It is important to be accurate, professional, thorough and skilled to have success in this challenging and demanding criminal justice career.

How Do You Approach Jobs, Career or Life in General

I was chatting to a good friend this week, were talking about our careers and how we have arrived at where we are now. If you stopped a few people along the street and asked them the same question, I can’t imagine that their responses would be the same?

Since then, I’ve given this some more thought and spoken to some of the people in my circle to find out their journey story. Bear in mind that the people I spoke to were from a real mix of backgrounds. For some, their career was a high flying city job, others it was being a parent. I quickly realised that even though people may have ended up in different vocations, typically we find ourselves driven and motivated by different things and this in turn determines our approach to work (in whatever format!)

I’ve summarised what I think are the 3 main approaches (although there are many in between) and also included some activities for you to try at the end of the article.

Striving for a challenge?

This is the person who notices that over time the task is getting easier and more comfortable. They tend to start to lose interest at this point if the activity loses its challenge – this could be in a job or hobby, or other activity. For some people this is viewed in a different way. They ‘get the hang’ of something and then step it up a gear. They decide that it’s time for a change or new challenge and take action to do something about it. This could be to take on extra responsibility, a promotion or looking for a new opportunity elsewhere.

Ticking along nicely?

There are some people who would think the above type of person above is driven, ambitious and frankly a bit too fast paced! For the person who is content to tick along nicely, their preferred approach is to coast along, comfortable and highly capable in whatever they work at.

This is a conscious decision – coasting isn’t bad. This tends to be a favourite way for some because it’s easy and can achieve a good work/life balance. They are competent and wont get stressed when faced with obstacles. They might only decide to make a change when their life circumstances force them, or they become angry or resentful towards their employer.

Always looking for something else?

Some people are never really sure what they want.

They’ll go with the flow if partnered with someone who seeks challenge, enjoying the ride and the excitement that goes with it. They might think about pursuing different career paths frequently trying to find their dream job. They might even try two or three different options in quick succession, hoping to get lucky and find the activity that is the right one for them.

So, why bother thinking about this? Surely we all have a different approach to life, careers and activities for enjoyment?

It got me thinking about my personal journey. If I had made some alternative choices in my life, what would be different? Anything? Nothing?

Ultimately, my view is that in each of the scenarios, each of the three have their own personal characteristics that will means that they will reach their destination; they may have already (for now).

The route they take and the length of the journey may vary, but does this matter?

Take a moment to consider where you are on your personal journey

Can you identify with any of the approaches above? Are you happy with how you a progressing on your journey? Do you wish you could take a quicker or more effective route? What, if anything are you willing to do about it?

Just taking a few moments to stop and take stock of what is happening in your life is enough to give you the space to recognise your achievements. Give yourself the pat on the back you deserve.

Consider what you want to stop, start or keep doing to help you get from where you are now – to where you want to be.

Hospitality Jobs – Career Prospects

There will always be employment out there for the experienced hospitality worker however what type of establishment will you work for? To answer this question you first have to have an understanding of the different types of organisations there are, what their goals and objectives are and how they operate. Then you can make a decision that best fits what your goals and personality requires. The following will give you a very broad overview of the different types of businesses there are within the industry. However you must remember that no two hotels or clubs or restaurants will operate the same or have the same objectives so this is a very general overview. We will only deal with the main types of establishments.

Registered Clubs

Most sizeable towns in Australia have at least one licensed club that usually provides food and beverage services, along with gaming, entertainment, and sporting facilities for members and guests. All clubs share certain characteristics – they are voluntary, non-profit organisations that have been established by groups of people that share a common interest.

Many people see clubs such as Panthers or Monties in NSW and ask the question, how can these clubs operate without profit? (Panthers is the biggest Club in the southern hemisphere). What non-profit organisation means, is that the money or profit that is generated does not go to one individual or group and can only be used to improve member’s facilities.

Different types of clubs include the following.

Sporting interests such as leagues clubs and bowling clubs Returned services affiliations such as RSL or Ex-services clubs Workers clubs or professional interests clubs Ethnic or religious clubs Pubs/Night Clubs

These types of establishments can offer similar types of services that clubs do such as food and beverage, gaming and entertainment. Pubs can also offer interest in sporting groups such as darts, snooker or pool and fishing among others. However they do differ from clubs in that there is no legal requirement of these organisations to contribute profits to the community, like clubs have to, and individuals or groups can own pubs/night clubs. That means these people make all the decisions and pocket the profits.

And there is certainly nothing wrong with that, however you must be aware that these organisations are run by private enterprise. This can be good or can be bad depending on the owners or managers. Some pubs because they are run privately are run extremely efficiently, effectively and professionally, even more so than clubs because they are not tied down with politics and red tape. However other pubs or nightclubs are run very poorly.

How can you tell the difference? Once again this is up to the individual and what you feel comfortable with. The best thing to do is visit the place before you start work or even before you apply for a job, if that is possible. Look at things like how clean is the establishment (I don’t mean how modern it looks, I mean is it physically clean), what type of patrons are there and how do the staff treat you. This will give you a good idea if you will be comfortable working in their environment

Accommodation Hotels

As one might expect this type of establishment is primarily concerned with providing accommodation. They can range from 1 or 2 staffed back packer hotels to large establishments with hundreds of staff. The large organisations such as Hilton, Park Royal etc receive hundreds if not thousands of job applications every year and competition for those job is great. However there tends to be high turnover of staff in these organisations so there are generally openings available.

Accommodation is their main service however they also provide food and beverage services, some have golf courses, gyms, some are owned by casinos and clubs. Some of their services are open to the public; some are private for their guests only. The services these establishments provide are almost as vast and as varied as the establishments themselves.

Career prospects within the large hotels are also vast. Chef, bar tenders, room service attendants, admin staff, maintenance or grounds keepers, security, concierge, storeman, laundry workers, porters, reception staff, waiters and food service personnel, the list can go on and on.

Restaurants and cafes

There are many different types of restaurants and cafes, which can be classified in many different ways. For example restaurants and cafes can be classified by the region the cooking style or ingredients came from e.g. Italian, Asian or classified by menu style e.g. a la carte or buffet or classified by service style, casual dining or fine dining. They can be licensed (can sell alcohol) or not and the vast majority of these are owner operator establishments and employ less than 15 staff.

There is a high degree of failure rate of these types of establishments; this is mostly due to inexperience. I found out the hard way that just because you can cook does not mean that you can manage a business (I will be writing a book on how to avoid the pit falls in the near future). However there are some very professional establishments that can offer very professional training and experience. When I first left school I started in a modern Italian restaurant in Balmain in Sydney’s inner west. Although I didn’t appreciate it much at the time, the work ethic that I learnt helped carry me throughout my professional life.

Homeland Security Jobs – Careers Explained

Homeland security has become much more of a priority in the United States and abroad due to the rise of terrorist attacks and other specialized domestic safety concerns in recent years. With the right degree and an ambition to protect our nation, you can have a very satisfying career with homeland security jobs. Most homeland security jobs require criminal justice degrees, although there are many different avenues you can take to get into the field and work your way up to the top. With approximately 180,000 officers working in the United States Department of Homeland Security and another 1.5 million employed by private agencies, it is definitely a booming field.

Once you finish school and begin working as a homeland security officer, your main duty will be to make sure that all U.S. borders, airports, seaports and other waterways are secure. This may sound like a job much like any another type of security guard, but that is far from the truth. The criminal justice role in home security involves analyzing, researching and developing innovative security technology to aid in disaster and attacks. Officers must also be able to examine intelligence reports and use the information to keep any threats from penetrating U.S. security systems.

The U.S. Capitol Police, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Protective Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Transportation Security Administration and Park Services all employ homeland security officers. Getting a degree in criminal justice may be the first step to getting a chance at home security jobs. There are even many schools offering programs that are specifically geared towards home security. You may be required to take courses that include introduction to homeland security, understanding terrorism, and introduction to emergency management.

While employed in one of the many home security jobs, you may have a career as a security police officer, FBI Agent, Secret Service Agent, state police officer, U.S. Marshal, special agent, customs investigator or diplomatic security agent. Keep in mind, most of these jobs require a fair amount of experience after completing school and they definitely take a certain type of personality.

Home Based Business Vs Working a Job-Career In This Economy – Where’s the Real Security

It never ceases to amaze me that people base their security in jobs. There’s no such thing as job security. Anytime you work for someone else, I don’t care how much your boss likes you, how well you do your job, or how well or poor the economy gets, you’re always looking at an income cap and one pink slip away from possible financial devastation.

Things change. People change. Circumstances change. The economy changes. Life happens.

Have you ever heard the saying, “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me?”

Well, today more than ever, men and women need to evaluate their situation and their options for insuring financial security for their families. They really need to understand that if they seek true financial freedom, it’s up to them personally, to create it and keep it. And I’m not talking about a job where it could be gone tomorrow. I’m talking about making a decision to be their own boss in which they hold all the cards.

I’ll be the first to tell you that not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship, however, there’s a great deal of people who have entertained the idea throughout their lives and it’s these people I’m talking about. Some have acted on those dreams and perhaps have failed, and then others have thought about it but have never taken that first step.

What is it that has people so frozen in their dreams of home business ownership, that they stay in a broken work force? They seem so sure that their security is in their jobs, when it’s actually the other way around. Security is in working for yourself, being your own boss. But because we are taught from childhood how to be good employees, dreams of entrepreneurship are quashed and most people lack the skills and belief system it takes to be successful in that arena. And, because of that, would-be entrepreneurs never achieve all that they were destined to be. This is a tragedy.

Let’s put entrepreneurship v. a job in perspective here and do a quick comparison.

WORKERS/CAREER ORIENTED/EMPLOYEES

This group of individuals invest thousands of dollars on education and give up years of their life to classroom study to be able to enter their career field where they become enslaved. From this point forward, these workers will be told what to do for the next 40 years. It will be dictated as to how much they can earn which determines when, where and for how long they vacation, the type of car they drive, the home they live in, and the effects ripple down even to the food on the table and gifts under the tree at Christmas. Oh, and now they have school loans to pay for years.

HOME BASED BUSINESS OWNERS/ENTREPRENEURS/NETWORK MARKETERS

This group of people invest trivial amounts of money (in comparison to a college education, I’m talking a couple hundred to a couple thousand, no big deal) in an opportunity, generally a network marketing or MLM company, they spend a relatively short amount of time learning skill sets, perhaps attend a seminar or two, begin on the job training immediately, enjoy the privilege of tax write offs, and best of all, does not get up to alarms clocks every morning to shower, shave and shine to head to the rat race. Nobody tells them what to do, what to wear, what they can earn, where they can vacation and their time is their own and there is no such thing as an income cap.

If people would put their fears aside about being their own boss, they would be able to sit back and assess the situation and their options in a more rational way. When you look at the two comparisons, doesn’t business ownership make better sense all the way around?

So, the question these Moms and Dads have to answer as they scratch their heads searching for answers to their financial security is whether they choose Plan A, stay in the work force or Plan B, take control of their life through a business of their own. There is no Plan C.

Isn’t it worth rolling up your sleeves, learning some skill sets on how to effectively market online, choose a product and industry you are passionate about and create wealth from home? If you’re one of those individuals who carry the entrepreneurial spirit deep inside, it’s something to think about because it’s here, in the home business industry, that one will find the real security.

Holistic Health Practitioner Jobs – Career Explained

Although holistic practitioner jobs have been around for thousands of years, these alternative medicine professionals have seen a career boom in recent years. Roughly 38 percent of all American adults are currently using some type of complementary or alternative medicine, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Holistic health practitioner jobs are now being recognized as viable forms of patient care as people continue seeking alternatives to traditional health care and pharmaceutical medicine.

The belief behind holistic practitioner jobs is that there should be a safer and more natural way to diagnose and treat various ailments, and that the whole emotional, mental, physical and spiritual aspects of a person’s health must be addressed. This way of thinking has become much more popular in recent decades. There are holistic health practitioner jobs in acupressure, herbology, nutritional counseling, reflexology, traditional Chinese medicine, yoga and many other fields. Some practitioners focus more on healing the body, while others act more as counselors or teachers who guide individuals on a healthy lifestyle from the inside out.

In order to be a holistic health practitioner, one must have a passion for alternative or complementary medicines. These aren’t just jobs; they are part of an entire lifestyle that focuses on greater health and well being. There are schools focused on holistic health that can prepare you for such holistic practitioner jobs as acupuncturist, biofeedback therapist, energy healer, meditation leader, massage therapist, kinesiologist, yoga instructor and many others. You may work in a spa, professional office, private office, from home, or you may go to the clients’ homes. There are many options in this promising field.

Now is a great time to get started in one of these careers, as there has been a substantial increase in alternative medicine and holistic health practitioner jobs since 2002. There are also many indicators that the growth will continue through 2016, and it will probably continue after that as well. If you have a passion for holistic living and believe that total health encompasses the emotional, mental, physical and spiritual, this is an ideal career for you.

Institutions offering quality Holistic Health Programs include American Institute of Holistic Theology, Clayton College of Natural Health, New York College of Health Professionals and Spa Tech Institute.
